In July 2001, type certification was discontinued for what is termed “lightweight air sports equipment” with a maximum unladen weight of 120kg (LuftVZO § 1 para. 4 – German Air Traffic Licensing Regulations). Since that time, along with paramotor wings, lightweight, two-seater paramotor trikes have been increasing in popularity.
At the same time, paramotor trike manufacturers are often forced to go back to less powerful motors because of the strict weight specifications and the noise measurements associated with type certification. 4-stroke motors are also used here.
POWERPLAY has responded to the special requirements of this group of customers with the TUSKER, and is offering a high-performance wing with forgiving handling at a maximum take-off weight of 316kg.
Thomas Keller qualifies on the NAJA for the World Air Games in Turin
There will be a large gathering of people involved in air sports of all kinds in Turin from 6 to 13 June 2009 for the World Air Games (WAG). Its motto is “One week, ten sports, unlimited adrenaline”. Paramotoring (foot-launched) is one of the disciplines included.
However, there are only 22 places available for paramotor pilots. The qualifiers were decided from the results in various qualification rounds in China, Japan, Spain, Belgium (2x), the Czech Republic, Italy, USA and Germany. With an total time of 146.86, not only did Thomas Keller win the qualification round held in late November in the Czech Republic (at the Roudnice nad Labem airfield), but he also held the lead in the ongoing qualification rankings. The competitions have now all been completed, and the 45 year old Naja pilot is in 3rd position overall and is the only pilot from Germany to qualify for the WAG. The largest paramotor event in German-speaking nations will be held from 29 May to 1 June 2009 at the Ballenstedt/Quedlinburg airfield in Germany’s Harz district. There will be fun competitions open to all, cross-country flying, demonstration flying, seminars and evening events, in addition to the now well-established outdoor paramotor trade fair. The German Paramotor Championships have been shifted, making it possible to hold new activities. The launch and landing sites are now fully available.
POWERPLAY will of course be represented again this year at a stand at the GPC. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet us in person and obtain first-hand information.

The first major paramotor competition since the NAJA was released provided an opportunity for this versatile glider to demonstrate how good it is, even when compared internationally.
Conditions were excellent, and a total of 9 tasks were ranked according to the international FAI regulations.
In the end, the top German paramotor pilots flying the NAJA held their own in the first-rate field of 28 competitors from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Poland.

Today the Germans Thomas Keller (from Ribbesbuettel), Jan Schaefer and Till Middelhauve (both from Darmstadt) successfully made a once-in-a-lifetime flight using motorised paragliders from the island of Sumatra to the volcano of Krakatau (Krakatoa), which is currently active again. The pilots launched near the village of Kalianda, flew about 50km over open water, then over the central part of the crater, before landing on the small volcanic island of Anak Krakatau (Child of Krakatau) on the opposite side from the crater. The volcano is currently active, releasing hot gas and lava in regular eruptions every few minutes. The pilots landed because of the blasts and noise, and compared it to the feeling of standing beside a pressing plant.
The Krakatau volcano is well-known throughout the world because its eruption in 1883 was the second biggest volcanic eruption of modern times. The island almost completely disappeared as a result, and more than 36,000 people on Sumatra died in the subsequent Tsunami with a 4 meter high wave. Rock and ash were thrown 80km high into the atmosphere. The recent smaller eruptions are being followed with great concern by the Indonesians because of the danger posed by the volcano.
The pilots obtained information from local volcanologists, allowing them to assess thoroughly the risk-level of their flight, and making them well aware of the nature of their undertaking.
They are currently reporting on their experiences to Indonesian television.
POWERPLAY development team has been working with great enthusiasm on a wing purely for motorised flight.
The requirements for a paramotor wing are too varied compared with a conventional paraglider, which is designed to have the best features for gliding and thermic flight. But finally we are able to introduce you our new "weapon". 'NAJA ' is latin and means 'cobra' a snake which underlines the viperish character of the new wing.
A very special development is the XWING for Fresh Breeze. It is a joint project of Aerolab, Powerplay and Fresh Breeze. Fresh Breeze itself is certified by the German "Kraftfahrtbundesamt" (KBA) - that is the German Federal Motor Vehicle Office. Fresh Breeze is allowed to print their own registration papers for the XCitor Trike. The XCitor maybe used up to 100 km/h inside the European Community (depending on the weight of the tow car and national regulations). Homepage des Trikeherstellers >>here>>
